I had almost forgotten we had this book on the shelf until someone mentioned it on facebook recently and I remembered that, yes, it really is perfect reading for this time of year (whether or not you are age seven).
"For Sylvia had a Wonder-Book, in which the Rhyme-Elves painted poems for her in the night. Before she went to sleep, she would put the book on her bedside table, and chant a magic spell. And next morning, when she woke, there the book would be, open at a new page, and on the new page a new poem, beautifully painted in big letters, with a picture to go with it like the pictures in this book."
Every year I tell myself I'm going to get a Wonder Book for the Rhyme Elves to paint poems in for the children. Maybe this will be the year? Well, probably not, the Rhyme Elves are a bit tired these days not getting quite enough sleep. Perhaps this isn't the season of life for painted poems?
In the meantime, it is cuddling, popcorn, and afternoon reading sessions with the October sunshine streaming in through the windows.
Some things you've just got to do.
Speaking of lovely stories for an October day, did you see that our friends at Sparkle Stories have a FREE Halloween story to share?
I think I know how we'll be spending part of tomorrow afternoon.
