Sneak Peek of the Coming Week

Around the House
Mom's work -
In the Kitchen - We've signed up for E-MEALZ again, using their Whole Foods plan. So far, so good.  It takes one more thing off of my To Do list each week, which is a big help in this season of life.

Speaking of big helps in the kitchen, I'm preparing this week to do a freezer cooking day.  I'm taking the Toddler Food January plan from Once a Month Mom, which I think will be good for my crew of little ones, too.  I'm planning to shop and prepare this week and then to cook and freeze on Saturday. My hope is that a little extra work right now will create easier mealtimes later on.  Fingers crossed it goes well!

Homeschool
Preschool (Lucy, age 3) and Kindergarten (Max, age 5)*:

Oak Meadow Kindergarten
*Max is having an age 5 kindergarten year and will officially start kindergarten at age 6

4th Grade Main Lesson block:
Jillian's main lesson is on Math, using Christopherus's fourth grade materials

artist study (see Monday below)
geography
six trait writing
reading for at least 30 minutes a day

You'll notice we're incorporating more workbooks this semester.  This allows Jillian more independence and also gives me a tangible way to track her process and review concepts.  Jillian is also joining in with Little Acorn Learning when she wants to and has been doing very well as my "helper" with the younger children.

In the Book Basket

Rhythm
Monday - Purple Day
  • Nature Study -  It is unseasonably warm right now and we're all feeling well again at the Rockin' Granola household, so we're heading outside with our sketchbooks and colored pencils to see what we can see. I'm encouraging the kids to be extra aware of animals tracks.
  • Enrichment - listening to Sparkle Stories (my kids love the Martin and Sylvia stories)
  • Artist Study - we've been following along with Confessions of a Homeschooler's The World's Greatest Artists Unit Study, Vol. I and really enjoyed it.  Now we're branching out on our own, continuing with these wonderful books introduced to us by the unit study.  I purchased more books over the holidays and we're picking one artist a week to read about. We're planning a field trip to our local art museum, too.
Tuesday - Red Day
Wednesday - Yellow Day
  • Coloring - with beeswax crayons
  • Enrichment - knitting (Jillian) and finger knitting (Max and Lucy), spending the afternoon working with our hands and wool yarn and listening to music together
Thursday - Orange Day
  • Handwork/Crafting - Jillian and I are creating a felt map as we continue to discuss geography.  This is our inspiration.
  • Enrichment - we're gong to have a Teddy Bear Pajama Party and stay in our pjs all day (Little Acorn Learning)
  • Games - Mitten Match was so fun last week, we're going to play it again.  I may even throw some socks in to the mix
Friday - Green Day
  • Practical Life - straightening the Loft playroom
  • Quaver Music
  • Friday Night Nest - family movie night

What are you going to be up to with your kids this week?
