Even holiday colds couldn't down the spirits of this crew!
These three very sweet experiences which added an extra layer of wonderfulness to our holiday this year. I think we have discovered some new Rockin' Granola family traditions.
Yesterday, Christmas Day, we stayed at home, in our pajamas. My in-laws came to visit us, which was nice. It was so relaxing to stay home after two weekends in a row of travel. It helps the pace of the day and, I think, allows us to savor this special birthday celebration in a way we just couldn't if we spent the day in the car.
We kept things really simple this year, something that seemed like the best idea with a new baby in the house. We kept decorations pretty minimal and didn't do a major holiday cookie bake.
In fact, the kids favorite holiday treat was this simple snack: I melted white chocolate chips and we poured the chocolate over pretzel twists and then the kids covered them with sprinkles. We let them harden, broke into pieces and enjoyed! Couldn't have been easier and disappeared faster than the cookies.
It was a lovely, slow day. We woke up, opened a few presents, had breakfast, played a bit, opened a few more presents, played a bit, visited with family, opened more presents. It was nice to focus for a while on each gift instead of a flurry of fast present opening.
We finished the day with birthday cake for dessert, in honor of the most special birthday baby. We have not done that in the past, but when Lucy was out with Christopher grocery shopping for Christmas dinner trimmings, she spied one in the bakery and asked if we could have it. It seems fitting and a good reminder of why we celebrate Christmas. Definitely a tradition to remember for 2012, too.
I'm already looking forward to next year! But, first? A long winter's nap ....
