I'm working on a post explaining how I plan (thanks to Connie for the suggestion!) and I thought I'd open up the comments to ask you guys what you want to know. I can't promise I'll be able to answer everything, but I'll do my best to take pictures and explain what I do and hopefully that will be helpful to you. (even if just as an example of what you don't want to do!)
I've updated my Homeschool page, so you can take a peek over there if you'd like.
I'm also doing something a little bit different with my planning this year in that I'm taking the normal file folder system I use (adapted from By Sun and Candlelight) and I'm going paperless with more of my planning, taking advantage of Google Calendar. We'll be continuing to use workboxes, too (adapted to our learning style) after they saved my bacon last Fall.
Of course, I need to tell you that whatever I plan out right now, if it isn't working once placed "in action" I'll make changes. But I think you guys know that about me already, right?
So, while I'm writing this post, what would you like to know?
The comments are open :-)

oo can't wait to hear what your planning! I personally love to see peoples work spaces. I am also trying to figure out how to even start.. I am not sure thats even an answerable question but when I think about sitting down to plan I don't know where to start. Or a for beginners section? Just some ideas!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...how to handle two different sets of schooling at the same time?? Ie: Pre-K and 4th grade? C and G both attend out of home school so this isn't really for year round but summer has been a challenge with trying to get them working on different "school" projects at the same time. This is all a major aside though so if you don't get to this qu, don't stress :)
ReplyDeleteIn other notes, thank you for your fab post on Truthful Tuesday. Our rhythm is always very challenged (I *So* relate to your never knowing when the books are due back at the library comment!!) and I need extra help to get us into a good plan. (being able to only shop once a week might help I suppose but so far Miss F doesn't last long enough before screaming ensues!) I love summer but we'll have to do some extra work come late August to get us back into a school rhythm. This will include finding my watch which has gone AWOL.
More to ask but I'll email it. Look for an email on bickering in your inbox soon. (I think I just need to hear that someone else has experienced this....I'm at the end of my patience).
Must go, bath time is finished :)
Take care.
I would love to know how you pick your curriculum! Someone gave us a "Before Five in a Row" book, which is great for my son, who's still a toddler. When he gets older, I'd love a super-interactive, Christ-centered curriculum, but I have no idea where to start. :(
ReplyDeleteAlso, do you do school all year round? And do you have a grading system?
I'm with Lindsay. I'm really not sure where to begin. I know I need a plan and a bit of a schedule if it's going to work for us, but I'm not sure how far ahead to plan, how to organize my plan, and how detailed I should be. I'm looking forward to anything you are willing to share!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone!
ReplyDeleteI'm writing and taking pictures and trying to get everyone's questions answered. Hopefully I'll have a post (or two ... or three ...) up in the next few days - maybe next week.
Keep the questions coming! I'll do my best :-)
Can't wait to see how you do your planning! I really to to dive into mine as I have next to nothing planned right now. Must stop procrastinating!
