- the bare minimum every day (taking care of anything that smells or looks like it will walk out on its own power, wiping down the stove/counters as we cook, washing the dishes, a load of laundry)
- a big deep clean a few times a year that I really make count! Once in the Spring, and then in the Fall and Winter I join in with the ladies at Magical Holiday Home focusing on one area a week to get ready for the holidays.
I don't think it is possible to "do it all" ... or at least it isn't possible for me to do it all and not be crazy, ranting, tired, lunatic-mother. And no one wants that.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Oh Kara, I do the exact same thing with my housework! The floor only gets mopped when I'm grossed out by the stickiness.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture!
Good to know I'm not alone in leaving the house last on the list--but it sure feels good to have it cleaned up!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your link back to my yard sale post. I'm always grateful for a mention, and I'm even more thankful for a link back. :*)

Oh, I agree: it feels SO good when it is cleaned up :-) I think one of the things I love about Spring Cleaning and the cleaning I start in the fall is that "everything is new again" feeling ... pretty wonderful :-)
ReplyDeleteTruthfully, I make jokes, but the house doesn't get *too* terribly messy, even with minimal daily care.
There are a few factors that contribute to this:
- I have lower standards than I used to have (I used to really stress about it and expect everything to be "company ready" always)
- my husband and oldest daughter pitch in and do a fairly good job of picking up after themselves ... and I let them (I used to go through and re-fold sheets/towels or re-load the dishwasher "my" way and now I let them do things their way).
- we don't own many things and are constantly downsizing/simplifying what we DO have ~ not owning many things means not many things to clean/take care of
My house may not be as clean as it once was, but I think my family is happier when I'm not stressing over it.
That sounds about like my cleaning routine too. It's just not a priority for me. I'm trying to focus on it a little more, but I'd much rather be spending quality time with my son. I always cringe a little when my neat-freak friends come to visit!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the shout out this week on my post about Gratitude!
Thanks for playing along with the photo! I hope to see you tomorrow :). I love candid shots. Lucy will be happy to see this photo of you together when she's older. I love that it has the laundry in the background too--it looks like our home!
