Homemade Powdered Laundry Soap
1 bar pure soap (we use Ivory)
2 Cups Borax
2 Cups Washing Soda
1 Cup Baking Soda
essential oils
(Essential oils are optional but we like scented laundry)
Mix it all up and store it covered. This is a low-sudsing detergent. You'll need about 1/4 to 1/2 C. per load depending on your water and your washing machine.
It can be tricky to find the borax and the washing soda. Usually they are on the top shelf or the very bottom shelf with the laundry supplies. We found ours at our local IGA and also at Meijer. Sometimes at Walmart, too.
Hope this helps someone!

How funny. When you mentioned this in your post the other day, I almost e-mailed you and asked for your current recipe. I wasn't sure if it had changed at all. I'm on my last bottle of B1G2 free from Meijer.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
kara, let me tell you that when H was born (Henry, not Horatio), I wanted to make my own soap, but couldn't find the WASHING soda. A few months ago I saw it at Kroger and bought some. DH asked me why I bought it.....uhhh...ummm.....{scratching head}...I knew there was a reason, but I forgot! We bought a bucket of CHarlie's Soap a year and a half ago, and are only half-way through it....guess that washing soda will be there a while... :)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know we aren't the only ones who use that laundry setup. I thought I was looking at one of my own pictures there for a minute, haha.
ReplyDeleteHow luxurious to have groceries delivered...and organic at that! How much extra does it cost I'm curious?
